Created for His Pleasure by Rev. Dr. Lynn Fowler
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
(Revelation 4:11, KJV)
Our plane was heading westward in the late afternoon. As we flew into the sunset, the display lasted for much longer than it would have if viewed from earth. Looking down at the clouds heaped beneath the plane, I found myself thinking that clouds from a God's-eye-view are definitely much more interesting than clouds from a mans-eye-view.
I was drawn to a similar thought some months later, watching a television documentary featuring photography of tiny blossoms, almost invisible to the human eye. By the magic of time-lapse and high-powered zoom lenses, it showed them budding and opening before our eyes. As I watched I marveled that here was something which, in the normal course of life, man would never see. It was not designed for man's pleasure: God had created it just for Himself. Then my mind wandered to thoughts of what wonders might be found on other planets and in the far reaches of the universe. We may think that the world revolves around mankind, but God created the universe, including us, not for our pleasure but for His.
That means that we should be asking ourselves the question, how well do we fulfill the purpose of our creation? How much pleasure do our lives bring to God?
